Inspecting Seals and O-Rings Before Replacing Hard Parts

A maintenance-first guide for checking seals, lubrication, and drag before replacing more expensive components.

Procedure Notes

This is one of the most reusable service guides in Forge Reference because it applies across springers and prevents needless part replacement.

Tools Needed

  • Silicone-safe lubricant
  • Small picks or plastic pry tools
  • Clean lint-free cloth
  • Chronograph

Steps

  1. Confirm the performance drop with a chronograph instead of diagnosing by feel alone.
  2. Open the blaster far enough to inspect the main seal surfaces without forcing unrelated parts.
  3. Look for dry o-rings, visible nicks, flat spots, or drag marks on mating surfaces.
  4. Relubricate lightly, reassemble, and retest before moving to spring or barrel replacement.

Troubleshooting Notes

  • A dry or damaged seal often looks like a spring problem because both show up as lower FPS.
  • Too much lubricant attracts debris and can create sluggish travel instead of fixing it.
